SOUL Foundation's Vision:

To equip every needy child with the ability to earn a better living and foster the Unitive Spirit.

SOUL Foundation's Mission:

To conduct Academic, Skill & Action-based activities for every needy child while supported by food provisions.

====================================================================

SOUL Foundation will be aiming to build as many as 10 SOUL Centers within South East Asia.

Our Programs caters to 4 parts.

1. Every month a 5 day action-based learning. It's aim is to bring interest and unity among the all.

2. Every 3 months a movie screening at the school compound to help promote better community relations.

3. Every 6 months a sack of rice will be given to the family of any child who successfully completed 6 classes.

4. Every Year End, a graduation will be organized for those who successfully completed all 12 classes.

====================================================================

Reasons to conduct the program this way:

Children in needy places will usually not be allowed any time off to do other things. As soon as they turn able, most will work at the fields.

Programs are aimed at creating unity, bonds of friendship and help develop positive purpose in oneself. As for the SOUL volunteers, it will groom the ability to care and horn leadership qualities in planning or coordinating various SOUL programs.

Maintaining Community relations by means of movie screenings will allow the families a glimpse of what we are doing and this will in return encourage them to send their children to our SOUL Center for continuous learning.

Rice giving is necessary because it will help ease the living conditions of these children. Plus the act of giving will further enhance our presence as being genuine and committed to every needy child's future.

When our programs are successful, we hope to recruit local teachers within the local community to come forward and give academic lessons. This is one of the main intended purpose of having this SOUL Center built.

SOUL Foundation Programs

SOUL Programs

1. Conduct activities that are focused in action-based learning. Every month we will provide 5 days of learning.

Learning will focus in having proper values towards humanity, nurture the importance of having good hygiene, expressing oneself within 180 secs (to encourage speaking), art classes, games/telematch, basic English writing & oral, basic maths, doing team activities where points will be rewarded daily for up to 5 days and the winning team will get a prize.

2. Every 3 months a movie screening will be done at the school compound to promote better community relations.

A movie screening is an opportunity for the community and volunteers to mingle. Its also a chance for families to visit the center as we want them to know that SOUL Foundation is a part of them. Basic snacks will be provided. Maintaining strong CR (community relation) is important as we hope to build their confidence and also assure that their children are in good hands.

3. Every 6 months 40kg of rice will be given to the family.

Any child who successfully complete 85% of the school's half year curriculum will receive 40kg of rice. This can help supplement the family and the kids need not worry about hunger anymore. Having the knowledge, that SOUL Foundation teach and feed at the same time, this setting provides a win win condition for both sides. We will yield appreciation from the community and also enhance CR in many bounds. It's also an opportunity for the parents to find employment.

4. Every Year End, a graduation will be organized for those who successfully completed all 12 programs.

This occasion will marks 2 milestones. SOUL Foundation's anniversary and a graduation day to celebrate the achievement of those who had completed a full year with us. Families will be invited to this joyous occasion. Another 40kg of rice will be given plus we will launch the movie screening in the evening to sum up the work year.

SOUL Foundation Leader

Soul Leader

A volunteer who takes up this leadership role will attend a 2 day orientation program. Thereafter, a real project evaluation will be done during the probation period.

SOUL Leader main expertise are coordinating the pre, during and post planning for every project. In our homeland, we are focus in fund raising. In overseas, main focus will be the welfare of the SOUL volunteers and ensuring a smooth sail for the SOUL programs.

Personal planning and managing members of all levels are challenges that a SOUL leader will face. During the orientation program, various scenarios and solutions will be discussed as we need to solve day to day situations in operating a SOUL Center.

To achieve strong teamwork, we have to challenge one's ability in coming up with sound solutions before going wholesale in a real project.

To make better use of every resource, we will brainstorm ways in making SOUL projects more better and efficient. SOUL Foundation is about making every cent work harder for every member and cost effectiveness is the top priority.

Part of the orientation includes team building which will enhance the dynamics within the team. The purpose of conducting a TBTL (Team Building Team Learning) session is to give everyone a better insight of the team members. This can help identify the strengths of one another.

By profiling SOUL leaders, we can better deploy them and this will enhance the experience for every volunteer and child in the long run. From this certification, we can be assured that every leader's action or decision will always be made towards the good of the community.

Conclusion

To all in SOUL Foundation:

In our life, at certain point, we will wish to do some good for the people. Every individual is capable of caring for their family, loved ones and friends. A SOUL volunteer in this case will be challenged in whether they can extend that same concern towards every fellow volunteer or needy child.

Every kid deserves the best with what the World can offer. We have it good in our life as we enjoy internet access and we are very fortunate to experience living at such high standards.

Developing the UNITIVE Spirit, will propel us towards better appreciation for humanity. It's challenging to cherish someone every single day and its even harder if you have to love someone who is a total stranger.

Through unity and doing the common good we can break new ground in achieving a higher betterment for communities which are in need. This will help us brave the grounds and achieve new heights.

You ready for a SOUL Adventure?

Best regards,

Jakarta, Tangerang, Teluk Naga

My search for a space to situate the 1st SOUL Center which caters to needy kids bring my visit to Jakarta, in a place called Tangerang and one of its villages named 'Teluk Naga'. Population in one area is up to 8k. Several villages are nearby, they do have 1 school but its not free for the residents. Living conditions are not easy. In this photo, it cost between 500 to 1.5k SGD to build one shed. Its raw material is bamboo.

Water is not easily available as they can't afford plumbing systems which require drilling from at least 4m to 8m. So they tap resources from a nearby drain. These bamboo sheds are not water proof. Once they touch water, rotting will begin as its impossible to sundry especially the side walls. Usual durability can last from 10 - 15yrs if the sheds are well preserve.
